Week of July 3, 2012:
Dan Ingram at WABC
(1981)
July 3, 1981. Twenty years to the day from
Dan's official start at WABC.
In the world of Top 40 radio this was a big accomplishment for Dan
and only served to further cement his image as the greatest Top 40 radio disk
jockey of all time.
This weekend, Rewound Radio will broadcast
Dan's WABC Twentieth Anniversary Show from July 3, 1981.
The show will air uncut as part of Rewound Radio's weekly "DJ Hall Of Fame
Show".
It's starts this Saturday an Noon Eastern on

WABC called the Summer of 1979 "Your Great
Summer of Music and Prizes".
The station gave away lots of prizes if you were spotted listening to WABC.
From a historical perspective, this almost at the end of WABC referring to
itself as "Musicradio".
Here's Harry Harrison on a Thursday morning giving away lots of prizes as part of that promotion!

Former WABC PD Al Brady Law
Musicradio77.com is sad to report that former
WABC program director Al Brady Law passed away on July 30th at age 67.
Al was program director at WABC in 1979/80 and was responsible for transitioning
WABC away from a straight ahead Top 40 station.
He made some changes that were necessary but also controversial.
He was also a supporter of this web site and contributed this account of his time at WABC:
Al had a stellar radio career in many markets
outside of New York.
Vince Santarelli provides a history of his career:

WABC Jingles
Throughout the Top 40 Era at WABC, the
station's jingles were legendary.
They were produced primarily by PAMS and
JAM Creative Productions.
This past weekend, NPR did a short story on the
history of jingles by Top 40 radio stations.
You can read it
here or listen to the segment via these links:
We have much more history on the use of jingles on WABC and lots of samples on our own page:
Those great PAMS/JAM jingles live on over Rewound Radio!
We have authentic, custom recorded jingles thanks to Jonathan Wolfert of
JAM.
You can hear them all day long in between the great oldies on
