Alan Freed isn't usually thought of as a
WABC DJ
because he was at WABC prior to it evolving into
a full time Top 40 radio station in December of 1960.
Freed was at WABC from June 2, 1958 until November 21, 1959.
It was a tumultuous time for him and for the station as the
Payola controversy was in full swing.
It was Freed's refusal to sign an
ABC demanded affidavit that he deny any involvement
with "accepting gratuities in connection with music promotion"
that resulted in his dismissal.
