All American of the Week:
     Scott Muni - 7:15 PM-10:00 PM Monday - Friday
                  7:00 PM-10:30 PM Sunday

SPECIAL NOTES: No play on "Mountain of Love" or "Hawaii Tattoo."

The "First and Exclusive Collector's Item" this week was announced
as a European recording not available in the U.S. This
"Collector's Item" is what would later be known as a "bootleg
recording." The quality was terrible, sounding like it was
recorded off a radio, using a microphone sitting next to a
speaker, rather than a line input. Even parts of the intro and
outro of the song were chopped, as though to eliminate DJ patter.
The fact that WABC would play a song of this quality (definitely
not broadcast quality) and questionable origin underscores the
intense level of competition Top 40 radio stations felt at the
time, to satiate the public's still heavy appetite for anything by
or about the Beatles. (Now THIS was Beatlemania!) It should also
be noted here that this is the first time in nine weeks that the
Beatles are (once again) in the Top 20 on WABC.
