The New York State Broadcasters Association held its 5th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony Thursday evening, November 12, 2009, at the Paley Center for Media on Manhattan's West 52nd Street.

This event saluted a half-dozen broadcasters including Charles Osgood of CBS News, and Harry Harrison, formerly of New York's best top 40 stations, and most recently CBS/fm.

The honorees from upstate were Marie Rice of Buffalo, Rick Gary of Syracuse, Brother Wease of Rochester and Don Weeks, from Schnectady-Albany. Rice was a high-profile TV journalist while Wease and Weeks have been radio personalities and Gary has worked in television and radio.

All have been institutions in their respective markets, as was illustrated by a video presentation that was shown before each inductee had the opportunity to offer an 'acceptance speech.' Perhaps one of the more humorous comments of the evening was when Brother Wease told the audience, in so many words, that anybody who ever questioned what he's done on the air should realize that he's now been validated by virtue of being inducted in the company of Charles Osgood!!!

Charlie and Harry have been friends for a long time and I'm thrilled for both of them. At the same time, it was a pleasure seeing and meeting the other honorees and learning about their individual careers.

Heartiest congratulations to the latest six to be enshrined in the NYS Broadcasters Hall of Fame!!!
